The Saygun Quartet takes its name from the Turkish composer Ahmed Adnan Saygun, a pioneering figure who shaped the dialogue between Anatolian musical heritage and Western art music.

Founded in 2024 in Budapest, the Turkish–Hungarian Saygun Quartet brings together musicians of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, professors and outstanding young artists, under the artistic leadership of Márta Ábrahám, with Mevsim Engin as co-founder. The ensemble was created with the vision of establishing a living musical bridge between Hungary and Turkey, exploring shared cultural roots while engaging with the classical and contemporary repertoire from both traditions.

The quartet’s artistic focus lies in shaping thoughtfully curated programs that connect historical legacy with present-day perspectives, placing particular emphasis on chamber music as a space for dialogue, depth, and collective expression. Alongside its concert activity, the Saygun Quartet considers research and education integral to its mission, actively engaging with academic inquiry, contemporary creation, and pedagogical projects.

Through its performances and educational initiatives, the Saygun Quartet aims to bring this cross-cultural conversation to international audiences, contributing to a broader understanding of music as a shared cultural language beyond borders.
